Avoid the Gliding Feeling of Hydroplaning with Four Tips

You know the way that your car feels when you're driving on a wet road during the middle of a heavy rainstorm and you feel like you're gliding? It's called hydroplaning, and it's not a comfortable experience, but there are a few things that you can do to decrease your chance of hydroplaning and increase your control of the car.

  1. Don't let your tires go bald. You should always have a good amount of tread, and you should rotate your tires regularly so that the tread on your tires wears evenly.
  2. You can buy tires that are specifically designed to perform better in standing water.
  3. Don't use your cruise control in rainstorms; you can lose control of the car if you need to brake.
  4. Drive about 10 miles below the speed limit so that the weight of your vehicle will make contact with the road.
